| This 3-view drawing is reproduced here from the Harleyford publication Fighter Aircraft of World War 1. The Nieuport 17 was a French-designed fighter widely used by all major Allied air forces. Various Nieuport models from the early 11 through the late 27 equipped some of the Italian fighter Squadriglia until largely replaced by the Spad 7/13 and Handriot HD.1. The Italian Nieuport fighters appeared in two schemes: aluminum or 4-part camouflage. |

MODEL TO BE BUILT

| The model to be built is Nieuport 17 N.3139 flown by Ten. Fulco Ruffo di Calabria of the 70a Squadriglia. He survived the war with 20 accredited victories. The Nieuport 17 being a French-built aircraft during the period of doped aluminum flake over paints, appears white in the profile but is actually a light aluminum finish. This image was produced by Bob Pearson found in volume 2, page 229, of Italian Aviation Units by Roberto Gentilla. Consult the bibliography below. |
