MILITARY MINIATURES
Military miniature releases have slowed since the "great recession" and a couple of manufacturers have gone under. Prices continue to edge up and its not unknown to see a 54mm figure that sold as a kit for $12.00 in the 90's now command $48.00, some are even higher. The 75mm scale is growing, largely as a result of releases from Pegaso (Italy) and Elite (Spain).
I launched a new line in my Historical Miniatures business, Scale Link, who have a large line of World War 1 figures of Belgian, British, French, German, and the United States. The line includes extensive accessories such as machine guns, infantry equipment, pioneer equipment, helmets, spare arms, and spare head sets, to name a few. The British line includes several artillery pieces, the Mark IV tank in both "male" and "female" versions, transport vehicles represented by a horse-drawn supply wagon and the Dennis 3-ton Lorry, plus a number of motorcycle variations. WORLD WAR I AVIATION MODELING
Wingnut Wings 1:32 scale releases for this year include two variations of the Sopwith Pup and two Albatros D.V/Va aircraft but no two-seaters. Other manufacturers continue to release in this scale and it has caused an increase in after-market accessories. So it seems that 1:32 scale models are firmly entrenched. In the 1:48 scale market, Special Hobby has released an Albatros C.III and Karaya has released two versions of the Halberstadt CL.IV, a short fuselage or early version and a long-fuselage or late Roland license-built version. I'm working on the Albatros C.III to be featured in the next issue.
Several German two-seaters not available on the market today are the early-war aircraft such as the Albatros B series, Albatros C.I, Aviatik B series, LVG C.I , and LVG C.II. Middle-war two-seaters not available are Albatros C.V, Albatros C.VII, Albatros C.X, Albatros C.XII, LVG C.IV, and LVG C.V. Late-war two-seaters not available are the AEG J series, Albatros J series, Halberstadt C.V, Hannover CL series (CL.III, CL.IIIa, CL.IV), Junkers J.I series, Rumpler Rubild, and Rumpler C.VII.
