ARTILLERY PIECES

 SMG01 - 60 POUNDER GUN & LIMBER

This gun of 5 inch caliber (127mm) was designed to give the most powerful artillery support possible within the weight limitations imposed by what a team of horses could reasonably draw.  The standard horse team was ten horses in five pairs and the weight they pulled was 58cwt.  Range was 10,300 yards.  This gun went to war with the BEF in the Summer of 1914.  This kit is designed to display every stage of operation: barrel drawn back on its trail and hitched on the carriage limber - 'on the march' .  The gun can be shown with the breech open or closed, or in the position of elevation or recoil.  Six bag charges, fused shells, un-fused shells, shell fuse caps, ram and sponge are included (see illustration above).  Horse teams are shown on this page further on.

Kit $199.00 / Painted Price on Request

 SMG01k - 60 POUNDER COMPLETE KIT

This complete kit includes the 60-pounder gun, limber, four pairs of horses, four drivers, harnessing, reins, stirrups, and traces.

Kit $430.00 / Painted Price on Request

 SMG02 - 13 POUNDER GUN  SMG03 - 18 POUNDER GUN  SMG05 - 4.5 INCH HOWITZER

The 13-pounder gun equipped a cavalry division's horse artillery brigade at the beginning of World War I.  These guns were considered too light for trench warfare and the horse artillery brigades were up-gunned to the 18-pounder in the Spring of 1915.

The 18-pounder divisional gun fired an 8.6kg (19 pound) shell, substantially heavier than its German counterpart.  It equipped all of the Regular Army artillery brigades at the start of World War I.  By the Spring of 1915, all brigades were so equipped. The 4.5 inch divisional howitzer fired a 114mm 17.5kg (39 pound) projectile and was well-suited to positional warfare where it could "lob" its HE rounds at a higher trajectory making it an effective indirect-fire weapon.  SEE PAINTED MODEL BELOW

SMG05 - 4.5 INCH HOWITZER PAINTED BY GEORGE GRASSE

 SMG04 - 9.75 INCH TRENCH MORTAR

This large caliber "bomb thrower" equipped the new trench mortar batteries that came into existence during the course of 1915 as a result of positional warfare.  Although there were several different "trench mortar" weapons, this became one of the preferred standard heavy mortars that could "lob" a 179 pound "flying pig bomb" over 2200 yards.

Kit $49.00 / Painted Price on Request

SMG06 - GUN LIMBER FOR 13/18 POUNDER GUN

This is the standard gun limber for divisional artillery and is a necessary element to correctly depict a 13- or 18-pounder gun drawn by a six-horse team.  It was also used in a modified form for the articulated limbered G. S. wagon that was used for transporting supplies up to the front line.

Kit $39.00 / Painted Price on Request
