 SBV06

SHOWN ABOVE IS A PHOTO OF A COMPLETED 1:32 SCALE MODEL OF THE Mk. X GENERAL SERVICE WAGON BUILT FROM THE KIT

The ubiquitous General Service wagon cris-crossed from bases, depots, and railheads over the entire British sector to the Front - piled high with bales of hay for the mule lines at Avuley, spools of barbed wire, sand bags, duck-boards, and timber for the revetments of the trenches.  In all weather, in all conditions of road (paved, dirt, and corduroy), they trudged and rumbled with loads of .303 ammo, Mills bombs, Bully-beef, hardtack, plum & apple jam - night and day supporting the troops at every echelon.  This kit has 69 cast white metal parts , plus photo-etched details, decal transfers, and detailed instructions.  Note that driver, horses, and wagon load are NOT supplied in this kit.

GENERAL SERVICE Mk. I LIMBERED WAGON

 SBV07

Once it became obvious that the mud of Passchendaele was too much for the "G.S.." Mk. X Wagon, even with 6 pairs of horses, the "G.S." Mk. I Limbers came into their own.  The increased articulation was far more suited to the shell-torn toads and tracks over which they were obliged to operate.  As with the "G.S." wagons, they could be called upon to carry virtually everything, although the design effectively reduced the actual payload which the horses could handle.

This kit requires either SBRHB1 or SBRHB2 plus up to four pairs of the other heavy haulage paired horse teams.  Additionally, for each pair of horses, one driver in the series SBR17_g is required.  See below or skip to this heading

SBVO7 Kit $68.00 (NO HORSES OR DRIVERS) / Painted Price on Request

SBVO7k Kit $172.00 WITH ONE PAIR HORSES AND TWO DRIVERS / Painted Price on Request

BRITISH ARMY Mk. IV TANK

On 15 September 1916, the first tanks (Mk. I) lumbered into action on the Somme Front in a piecemeal assault that failed but impressed British leadership that 1000 were ordered.  After review and modification, the Mk. IV improved model was approved and put into production in facilities all over Great Britain.  However, not all served as combat tanks.  David Fletcher in his British Mark IV Tank  (Osprey New Vanguard series) summarizes the 1400 or so Mk. IV tank production as: Male fighting tanks 420, Female fighting tanks 595, Supply tanks 205, Experimentals 11, Surplus 54, and cancelled 180.

The simple difference between the Male and Female fighting tanks was the obvious Ordnance Quick Firing 6-pounder 6 hundredweight Mark I main guns of the Male and five Lewis (later five Hotchkiss) machine guns of the Female.  The cause for the two types of armament was a lack of 6-pounder guns.  By the time the guns were available in large numbers, the new Mark V model was in production and all of these were so armed.
